ALBION WORKS

25th February 2015

If I was to turn the clock back ten years –  when my ideal was all about urban living, and before the days when a garden became my top priority – this open plan loft-style apartment located on Sigdon Road in London’s Hackney district would have been right up my street. I’ve always had a soft spot for warehouse conversions and the like because of their gutsy volume and original features, and this apartment exemplifies that industrial style with its super-scaled ceiling heights, steel columns and giant windows.

BRAMLEY

29th January 2015

This is definitely the time of year when I start wishing I was somewhere else. Let’s start with some place warm, like Australia. And failing that, it’s the time of year to start dreaming about new places to go and trips you’d like to make. Yes, I’m talking summer. TANNERS HILL

20th January 2015

The house was also a winner in the prestigious RIBA London Regional Awards 2013. Continue Reading…

Designed in 1966 by the architect John Penn, this single storey property is one of a celebrated group of nine Suffolk houses that are referred to as the ‘temple’ houses due to the classical symmetry of their planning, combined with the fact that the buildings are raised slightly off the ground on a platform. ROYLE BUILDING

11th November 2014

Exposed brick and concrete, high ceilings and open plan living, and an aesthetic that offers more than a hint of an industrial vibe – this apartment on the third floor of the Royle Building on Wenlock Road in London’s Hackney is one of those properties that falls into the ‘love at first sight’ category for me. OFF LORDSHIP LANE

30th September 2014

Having worked from home for 16 years, I understand the challenges of finding or creating the ideal live/work space, and was reminded of this recently when friends returned to Edinburgh and began searching for a home that would also offer a showroom for their incredible collection of mid-century furniture and design objects. They couldn’t find a rental property that was suitable, and ended renting up a flat and (at last count) three storage units for their furniture. It wasn’t ideal. Continue Reading…
