Every so often you come across a place so gorgeous that one mention just isn’t enough. I first noticed this house online back in April while searching for international properties for sale to feature on my previous blog, and I posted about it then as it was too good to resist. So I’m revisiting (with bigger photos) for those that missed this first time round.
This house is located in the exclusive Water Island enclave of Spatangaville, and offers 360 degree views of the Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The property can only be accessed by private boat or water taxi – it’s the ultimate ‘getting away from it all’ home, in other words. Designed by architect Richard Gluckman of Gluckman Mayner Architects, the house is all about indoor-outdoor living, as you might expect from this location, and includes an outdoor dining area, an external shower ‘cabin’, and a roof deck.
Personally, I love the combination of natural finishes used throughout – the timber-clad walls and ceilings and the roof beams in the living room and kitchen, contrasting with the contemporary furnishings and those sleek white kitchen cabinets – and the beautiful textures, like the tiling in the shower room.
This interior references the concept of a simple beach house but with a truly luxe edge. While there are touches of glamour, the end result doesn’t feel ostentatious, and the external treatment is just as natural and tactile, combining timber cladding and shingles. This is one of my favourite houses of the year for sure.
This house was marketed by Fire Island Real Estate.
