THE UNO

9th August 2017

Up until a few years ago, I was one of those people who always said I couldn’t live in a place without a bath. I needed my end-of-the-day bathing fix to unwind – and sleep. But now, the last thing I do at night before going to bed is take Harris and Bracken out for a walk, and by the time I get home it’s close to midnight and I’m too tired. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate a bath purely for its aesthetics! Which explains why the new Uno freestanding bath from Clearwater caught my eye.

When I was thinking about introducing a new super-short post style on Spotlight – think of this as an #ObjectOfDesire showcasing some design pieces or collections that I’ve spotted and loved – I realised that the Uno would be the perfect object to kick this off. Measuring 1550mm by 725mm with a high gloss surface, the Uno’s ClearStone material avoids the excessive weight common with many solid surface freestanding baths as the coating is moulded onto the bath’s surface, so you’re guaranteed a long-lasting finish that’s resistant to scratching or cracking. And the Uno’s slender profile and sculptural simplicity means that this piece will never date. Beautiful, right?

Also, note the Parquet vinyl floor tiles designed by Neisha Crosland for Harvey Maria. I featured Crosland’s Check range here earlier this year and Parquet is just as striking in its bold simplicity, shown here in Charcoal. The perfect minimal bath and graphic floor combo.
