COLLABORATIVE MOODBOARD PROJECT

7th May 2020

One of the things that’s really struck me over these weeks of lockdown has been the need for creativity. Personally, I’ve been taking more photos, creating more stories on Steller, and feeling the need to write more. For me, it’s been a means of keeping my head positive and focussed, and scrolling through Instagram and talking to friends, it’s clear that I’m not alone in this.

And as many of us are now spending more time at home – pretty much all our time in the last six-plus weeks – chances are that we’re also looking around and considering the improvements we could make, and the creative interior projects we might embrace. Textile designer Claire Gaudion responded to this when launching her Collaborative Moodboard Project.

A STYLIST’S HOME

7th February 2019

It’s been a stressful week between work (the least stressful bit as I’ve had some great interiors to write about) and family, plus a small hound who’s been reacting badly (I think) to some anti-anxiety meds, so neither of us have been sleeping. Yes, today requires a steady supply of caffeine and Montezuma’s dark chocolate. So before diving into another interview and another print deadline, I wanted to share this beautiful, serene interior that I happened across on Pinterest, which led me to this post on Krone Kern. This is the home of Elin Kickén, who is one half of the Swedish stylist duo Sundling-Kickén, and the interior was photographed by Mikael Lundblad for Residence Magazine.

UNDERCOVER

10th September 2018

Every so often when searching for new products for the weekly Interior News page I compile for a newspaper, I come across something that I know will work here too. Discovering Undercover was one of those moments. Born from founder Miriam Tyrangiel’s desire to find really good quality bed linen that combined a strong design aesthetic with environmental credentials, Undercover’s collections are designed in London and produced by a family-owned factory in Portugal – a factory that’s been crafting high quality bed linen for 70 years.

LÄNGHOLMEN

15th November 2017

It’s been way too long since I’ve shared a gorgeous Swedish home, and while I have a list of spaces I need to share – look out for a fantastic Edinburgh Airbnb coming up – I just wanted to start with this super-styled Stockholm apartment. Why? Well, because Edinburgh is really feeling like winter now. It’s cold and it’s grey and I’m missing daylight. And this light-filled apartment is reminding me that winter won’t last forever. Anyone else need cheering up today?

FARROW & BALL AW17

5th October 2017

If you’ve been following here for a while you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Farrow & Ball’s beautiful colour palette, and also, more recently, of their wallpaper collections. Last year, I featured the wallpaper collection for AW16, and I must admit that I’ve been hankering to use the gorgeously simple Art Deco-inspired Arcade print ever since, particularly in the 5307 colourway.

Farrow & Ball have recently launched the AW17 collection of wallpapers, and have taken inspiration from the current trends of texture, maximalism and a return to nature. The new collection features three contemporary floral wallpapers – think florals that are fluid and expressive, where each wallpaper has a tactile, almost three dimensional finish that’s been achieved by printing paint on paper.

NERO MARQUINA

17th August 2017

I realise it’s still summer, and I probably should still be thinking about summer light and summer palettes, but I feel like I’m being drawn to the dark side at the moment. I’ve been helping my Mum with her new kitchen and bathroom redesign, and it’s all dark: riven slate-effect cladding on the bathroom walls and off-black kitchen cabinetry. Even the appliances are black, as is the kitchen tap. I think my head has been so full of this colour palette that I’m being drawn to certain finishes as a result.

Which brings me to this gorgeous Nero Marquina collection of tiles from Original Style – a matt-finish porcelain that looks like marble.
