A STYLIST’S HOME

7th February 2019

It’s been a stressful week between work (the least stressful bit as I’ve had some great interiors to write about) and family, plus a small hound who’s been reacting badly (I think) to some anti-anxiety meds, so neither of us have been sleeping. Yes, today requires a steady supply of caffeine and Montezuma’s dark chocolate. So before diving into another interview and another print deadline, I wanted to share this beautiful, serene interior that I happened across on Pinterest, which led me to this post on Krone Kern. This is the home of Elin Kickén, who is one half of the Swedish stylist duo Sundling-Kickén, and the interior was photographed by Mikael Lundblad for Residence Magazine.

GREY ON GREY

21st May 2016

Parquet flooring: check. Shades of grey painted walls: check. Absolutely gorgeous styling: definitely check. This apartment in the Östermalm district of central Stockholm really was love at first sight. The newly renovated property was marketed by Lagerlings – another new discovery for me. Be warned though – with a combination of beautiful properties and immaculate styling and photography, you can get lost in this estate agency’s website for some time.

BROUGHTON PLACE

27th April 2016

A few weeks ago I posted about an amazing flat in Edinburgh’s New Town, and I must admit that when I turned up to chat to the owner there and have a look round, I knew that this was a flat I could (very happily!) live in. There are just some places that you immediately connect with. And this happened again when I went to meet Stuart Holligan at this B listed Georgian flat on Broughton Place, again in the city’s New Town. I know this location well and have admired these bow-ended flats that sit on the corner of Broughton Place and Broughton Street, and also opposite on the corner of Barony Street and Broughton Street, for years. Needless to say, perhaps, it was a pleasure to finally see inside one.

SHADES OF GREY

18th September 2015

So the Rugby World Cup has started. You may be asking, what does that have to do with interiors? Well, it might explain why I’m scanning through Per Jansson’s listings, looking for inspiration, on a Friday night, as the TV has been ‘claimed’.

And what inspiration! I didn’t have to search for long as this gorgeous property in Stockholm, Valhallavägen 129, was one of the first I spotted on Per Jansson.

NOMADS

29th August 2014

I haven’t been to Berlin for years. Indeed, I’m ashamed to acknowledge this as it’s a city I’ve long wanted to return to and explore properly. And looking at these photographs of this incredible interior is pretty much pushing me over the edge. Continue Reading…

SHADES OF GREY

20th February 2014

Those of you who know me through this blog will already be aware that I have a ‘thing’ about grey. This is a shade I never get tired of, from clothes to furnishings to paint colours. I’ve swooned over Farrow & Ball’s many subtle grey tones in various properties over the years – the beautifully chalky-pale Cornforth White is a current favourite, while I’m increasingly drawn to Down Pipe, which feels like the perfect dark grey.
