DUNCAN STREET

2nd February 2016

When interior designer Eva Serrano arrived at this handsome Georgian townhouse at 9 Duncan Street in Edinburgh’s Newington area 12 years ago, she was looking for a home that could evolve with her growing family – daughter Naroa and son Lewis – and that would give her the opportunity for a studio space at home. As she says: “The house has five bedrooms, so I could have a studio here and this gave me the work-life balance I wanted.”

CARLTON STREET

3rd November 2015

The first time I visited this ground and garden level property at 4 Carlton Street in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge area was back in 2010, when I was writing about the interior for Scotland on Sunday. I loved both the property itself – this is one of my favourite streets in Edinburgh – and the interior styling that combined subtle French with Scandinavian influences.

Yet when I went back to see this property, which is now on the market with Knight Frank, I didn’t realise it was the same place. Nothing felt familiar. Then, as I was chatting to owner Christine Maclachlan, the penny dropped. STOCKBRIDGE TOWNHOUSE

15th July 2014

Goodness knows how many times I’ve walked past the ornate door at number 30 Raeburn Place in the heart of Stockbridge in Edinburgh. I’ve lived in this area – not in Stockbridge, but within walking distance – for almost twenty years, so I must have made a good few hundred trips along Raeburn Place while heading to or from Inverleith Park or the Royal Botanic Garden. ONE ROYAL CIRCUS

18th June 2014

I first visited One Royal Circus in Edinburgh maybe thirteen years ago to write about it for The Observer. You know how some houses make such a strong impression that you will never forget them? Well, this is one of those houses. This was before number One opened its doors to its bevy of A-list guests; before Ewan McGregor called it “a fabulous house” and before David Walliams referred to this A listed Georgian townhouse as being “the loveliest house I’ve stayed in.” Continue Reading…

ST BERNARD’S CRESCENT

11th June 2014

What happens when a property expert and an interior designer go shopping for a new home? Well, chances are, they find a great property in a prime location, and tackle a bit of a project. Do you know of any interior designers who wouldn’t want to transform their own home? No, me neither. Continue Reading…
