AT HOME WITH GREGORY PHILLIPS

10th July 2014

“If you have a lot of glass, you need a fantastic view,” architect Gregory Phillips reflects, and there’s no denying that his own home in London’s Muswell Hill includes both these features.

From the front, the semi-detached house appears traditional, but move to the rear of the property and you’ll discover an incredible open plan living space incorporating seating, dining and kitchen areas, with an entire wall of glazing pulling in the views to the rear garden. Continue Reading…

ALBERT TERRACE

4th June 2014

In my previous post about The Workshop in London’s Camden area, I mentioned not judging a book by its cover and how the same can also be true of properties, and this former coach house at 15A Albert Terrace in Edinburgh is another prime example of this. Although the exterior-versus-interior contrast isn’t quite as dramatic as in The Workshop, if you arrive outside number 15A expecting a quaint mews style house full of character and charm, well, you’re in for a surprise. THE CORNER HOUSE

27th May 2014

A TERRACED HOUSE REBORN

One striking image of the ‘bridge’ structure that extends from the main body of the house to the garden – a structure that contains a super-minimal kitchen – kept cropping up online, and I must admit my first response when I saw this image was: surely this is a really cool looking architectural rendering of someone’s dream project. COATES GARDENS

31st March 2014

When you’ve been writing about property for a few years, chances are you’ll see houses or flats coming back onto the market that you’ve already featured, and it’s always interesting to see how different owners have interpreted a space in their own way. Sometimes they’ve made dramatic changes, and sometimes, as with this ground and garden level property at 43 Coates Gardens in Edinburgh’s West End, the original space was so striking and beautifully designed that there was no need to change a thing. MAGDALA MEWS

5th March 2014

Arriving outside the entrance to Rachel Green and Andrew Fletcher’s home, which is tucked up a cobbled cul-de-sac of traditional mews houses in Edinburgh’s West End, the first clue that this property might be a bit special is the black gate with its crisply detailed address plate. Continue Reading…
