MALVERN EAST

9th January 2015

As much as my default mode for International Fridays posts leans towards Scandinavian homes – the palette, the familiar cool light – I must admit, at this point in January, after three long months of short days and elongated nights, I’m yearning for daylight and warmth. I’m longing to be living some place with an entirely different climate. Winter: enough already.

So when looking for a property for this week’s post – the first of 2015 – I thought I’d head south, to Australia, which led me to this very beautiful house in Melbourne that’s being marketed by RT Edgar. Located on Coppin Street in Malvern East, this renovated Edwardian house sums up what I’m missing at the moment: light-drenched spaces and indoor-outdoor living.

Clearly, this house looks great inside with its pared-back aesthetic and contemporary styling, and with just a bit of an eclectic mix thanks to the few vintage and antique pieces. And just look at that open plan kitchen, dining and living space – fabulous, right?

But what really makes this house stand out is its stunning gardens that have been designed with different seating zones, including a large decked terrace. And the plot feels very private: enclosed and green and lush. I tend to be sold on the interior design of houses, but in the case, the garden had me at hello.
