NOBIS HOTEL

11th January 2018

The first post of the year always feels a little daunting. I’m itching for Copperline to include some new features – as in, features that aren’t about interiors – but I wanted to start the year with a gorgeous space, and when I spotted the photo above, well, you can understand why this interior felt like a great place to start.

GILMORE PLACE

23rd November 2017

Back in September I posted about Williamstone Farm Steadings – a steading conversion on the edge of North Berwick, where the interiors of the three steadings were designed by DecorAir – and this flat in Edinburgh is another project from the same design duo of Rachel Richmond and Xanthe Weir. Rachel and Xanthe launched DecorAir earlier this year with the aim of offering tailored design packages to the buy-to-let market, calling on their years of experience working on interior projects – Rachel is the Design Director of the Edinburgh-based interior design company Hen&Crask while Xanthe is the founder of the online store Lair specialising in midcentury furniture, lighting and curios.

WILLIAMSTONE FARM STEADINGS

26th September 2017

Set in a four acre plot of farmland on the edge of North Berwick in East Lothian, Williamstone Farm Steadings might appear traditional from the outside with the combination of rustic stone walls and red pantile roofs, but once inside these grade B listed buildings – The Barn, The Byre and The Bothy – you can expect pared back and contemporary living spaces. Think flowing open plan interiors with wide plank Kährs oak flooring (and underfloor heating) and RAIS woodburning stoves, and with sleek Poggenpohl kitchens and bathrooms featuring fittings by Duravit and Porcelanosa. Think gorgeously mellow colour palettes by Farrow & Ball that shift in the ever-changing light from the large windows punched into the old stonework, and exposed roof beams with vintage style lighting. Each of the three properties has its own character and style, yet each shares the same aesthetic language of quiet and understated elegance.

ALPINE CHALET

6th January 2017

I feel I should start this post by wishing everyone a happy New Year – although I’m wondering if it’s still okay to write this at the close of the first week in January? A few days too late perhaps? But as this is my first post of 2017, it feels right to mark a new beginning. Let’s be honest, January isn’t the easiest of months – spring still feels a long way off – so when I was thinking about what to feature as the first post here, I realised that a little bit of escapism might be in order. Which brings me to a question: anyone else fancy packing their bags and heading to this chalet in the mountain village of Andermatt in the Swiss Alps?

LA GRANJA IBIZA

22nd September 2016

Having just returned to Copperline HQ this week after a holiday – thank you dog-friendly Northumberland! – I have to say it’s hard to come back knowing that winter is just round the corner. I realise we have autumn first and I shouldn’t be jumping the gun here, but these dark evenings already feel closer to winter than summer! So I plan to keep on dreaming with lots of fantastic holiday properties (who’s with me here!) and this… well, this is perfect.

La Granja Ibiza first caught my eye on Wallpaper*, and when I headed to this boutique hotel’s website I was instantly smitten by the mood of this place along with the beautifully mellow and rustic aesthetic. I love when an old building is refurbished but still retains that patina and sense of history, and La Granja pretty much oozes patina in every space.

THE NEW ROAD RESIDENCE

26th August 2016

Putting contemporary architecture aside for a moment, if I had to choose one period of architecture that I’m most drawn to it would be Georgian. Having lived in Edinburgh for just over twenty years, this is probably no surprise – I’m surrounded by Georgian architecture every day. The simplicity, the balance, the quiet elegance – this is an aesthetic that I could never tire of. I love historic buildings, but there’s just something about Georgian houses that draws me to them time and time again. Think timber panelling, simple fireplaces, delicate cornicing, flagstone floors… it doesn’t get better.

Which brings me to The New Road Residence. This has to be one of the most beautiful and restrained and sympathetically designed Georgian houses that I’ve come across, and it’s available to let with The Modern House.
