BROOKLYN HEIGHTS

17th August 2015

When a friend who lives in New York sent me the link for this property in Brooklyn Heights, which is featured on Gothamist, I knew I had to share it. From the outside, this is the kind of house that leaves me a little weak at the knees thanks to its combination of brick and black, not to mention the perfect symmetry of its façade.

This former carriage house dates from the 1860s and has been completely renovated over the past three years. Located at 165 Columbia Heights, this four bedroom property is now on the market with Sotheby’s for a cool $9,950,000.

COPPERLINE GETS BLOGGED

4th August 2015

So this was a surprise: I was approached by Terrys Fabrics to be interviewed for a Designer Insights feature on their blog. Of course I said yes! To be honest my first thought was, well, I’m not a designer. I write about what other people design as opposed to embracing the challenge myself. But I do spend a significant part of my life thinking about design so…

LILAC COTTAGE

21st July 2015

I can’t recall the first time I visited the Fife village of Falkland – it was years ago, and I was most likely writing about a house there – but every time I’ve been back since, I always end up taking photos of the historic buildings that give this conservation village so much character. The most famous, of course, is Falkland Palace, but I’m as drawn to the detailing on the smaller properties and cottages. It’s the kind of place that could get under your skin.

Little wonder then that having lived in Falkland as a youngster, Daniel Aitkenhead grabbed the chance to put down roots here and purchase Lilac Cottage when the property came on the market two years ago.

WELCOME TO THE NEW COPPERLINE

10th July 2015

Hello and welcome to the new look Copperline. It feels odd writing that as I’ve been thinking about this new blog for some time – in a fairly abstract way from the end of last year where I realised that my two existing blogs needed to be combined. Why, you might ask?

THE LAUNDRY

17th March 2015

I’ve long had a soft spot for Georgian houses. Their simplicity and understated elegance; their sense of balance and great proportions. Stating the obvious really, but there’s a lot to admire in Georgian architecture, and this B-listed house, The Laundry, is a fine example of the period.

DOMUS LIFE

16th September 2014

So, I’ve posted about this on Instagram and Facebook, but realised that I hadn’t mentioned it here, and given that this is where Copperline exists, well, it seemed right to share it. I was surprised (pretty gobsmacked, actually) to be asked by Domus Nova to be featured in the Autumn/Winter edition of their magazine Domus Life. It’s a cracking publication, full of lustworthy properties and gorgeous interiors and architecture. And this, above, is the feature about Copperline, and a little bit about me. As a journalist, I spend my life interviewing people for newspapers and magazines, so it was interesting – in a good way! – to experience this process from the other side.

With thanks to Domus Nova for this fantastic opportunity. You can find the Autumn/Winter edition of Domus Life here.
