Style. Some interiors just have it. Indeed, some interiors just ooze it. The flow, the materials and sense of craftsmanship, the furnishings and lighting and the styling touches – it all adds up, and this house on Bovingdon Road in London’s Hammersmith & Fulham offers one of those interiors. Selling agent Domus Nova describes the property as “sensational” and, as these photos show, this four bedroom house certainly matches that description.
This house has been newly refurbished by the Brazilian architect Marina Breves to create an interior that fuses South American contemporary style with beautifully detailed custom finishes and features, as seen in the seating and dining area with its striking copper fireplace.
The house is arranged over four floors – lower ground, raised ground, first and second – and the open plan living-dining area and kitchen extends across the raised ground level and opens onto the south-facing garden at the rear.
Much of the furniture here has been imported from Brazil and complements the interior backdrop perfectly. Although the palette is largely neutral, with a mix of natural timbers and tactile materials including steel, copper, glass and Corian, and with a muted colour palette in shades of white and grey, I love how brighter accents have been injected into the spaces, as with the glass globe lighting suspended over the dining table or the colour-pop bar stools by the super-sleek kitchen island.
The rear garden is as thoughtfully designed with natural finishes, and with a large seating and dining area. I particularly like the interplay of contemporary slatted timber and crisp white render against the original brick wall – echoing the use of brick inside – and the mix of soft and angular planting.
The lower ground level includes a games/home cinema room, while head upstairs and you’ll find a fantastic master suite on the first floor with guest or family bedrooms above. There’s also a very smart study space on this upper level and again, as you look through this house, there’s that great interplay of materials.
And just look at this master suite. Or, more to the point, this bath. Again this space combines clean-lined simplicity in its design with tactile finishes including the textured wall below. The end result is a beautifully conceived interior that is, indeed, sensational.
