It’s no secret that I’m a (massive) fan of chevron parquet flooring, so you can understand why these images from Gemini Tiles caught my eye. But hang on, tiles? Tiles that look like parquet? Yes indeed, the new Treverkmade Collection from Gemini Tiles combines the aesthetic we all love from natural timber with the practicality and durability offered by a tiled finish, making this a great choice for bathrooms where timber isn’t the most practical of options – and I say this from experience having lived with a painted wooden floor in our own bathroom for years. (It looked fantastic on day one, but considerably less so now!)
This new collection of glazed porcelain tiles comes in four finishes: Caramel Wood, Cognac Wood, Cream Wood and Fume Wood, and in two sizes: 900mm x 150mm and 280mm x 70mm. The photos above, top and below show the Fume Wood finish, which I have to admit is my favourite as it has that subtle grey-toned colouring that I love. Dare I say it but this collection has a very Scandi feel, yet at the same time I look at chevron floors like this and visualise a super-styledParisian apartment. It’s a versatile look in other words; it really depends on how you use the finish and what you complement it with.
The two photos below show the Cream Wood finish, and it’s interesting to consider these tiles used in a living space as an alternative to wood, particularly as the grained detailing creates a nice texture. And, of course, this tiled finish is ideal with underfloor heating. Perhaps this is the answer to my desire for a ‘warmer looking’ timber floor in a bathroom – a finish that looks like the real thing, with the elegant styling of chevron timber, but one that can handle water while retaining its good looks. What do you think – would you be tempted by a wood-effect tile? Where would you use it?
