TIMBER LAYERS

18th June 2018

It’s been ages since I last posted, and it’s good to be back. A lot has happened in the last few months months, from shoulder-healing yoga (still a work in progress) to moving and swapping our top floor flat in Edinburgh for ground floor living just outside the city. This has been such a long process, and emotional – even more so than I expected. I’d been in our last flat for 13 years and living in the area for 23 years, so it really was a wrench to go. But hopefully the new place will start to feel like home in time too. Even though I’ve been a city person for most of my life, maybe life will be better without the background buzz that comes with city living. And, yes, there’s a project to do! Watch this space…

And after this break, there’s so much to blog about, so I’m going to dive right in with a house I spotted on Fantastic Frank.

LÄNGHOLMEN

15th November 2017

It’s been way too long since I’ve shared a gorgeous Swedish home, and while I have a list of spaces I need to share – look out for a fantastic Edinburgh Airbnb coming up – I just wanted to start with this super-styled Stockholm apartment. Why? Well, because Edinburgh is really feeling like winter now. It’s cold and it’s grey and I’m missing daylight. And this light-filled apartment is reminding me that winter won’t last forever. Anyone else need cheering up today?

GOTHENBURG APARTMENT

7th July 2017

I came across this apartment the other day on HomeDSGN while scrolling for inspiration, and as I couldn’t see any photo credits I did a quick search to track down some background of this apartment. The original article appeared in Swedish Elle Decoration and this stunning apartment is the Gothenburg home of interior designer Sara Gerum and her craftsman husband Christoffer.

BLUE MOOD

22nd December 2016

I’ve really missed Copperline over the last few weeks as I had to take a break for work – though the work/blog balance is usually in sync, tight pre-Christmas deadlines left me with literally no head space to write here. So that’s done, and it’s good to be back.

While I’ve lots of blog posts planned to catch up on (brace yourselves in the New Year!), I couldn’t resist easing back into blog mode with a #ScandiHouseLust post. I’ve been watching the Swedish TV drama Modus (pretty much the perfect TV for a winter’s night – you can catch it all on iPlayer) and, taut storyline aside, there are also a couple of great houses to drool over. One is the home of the lead character, criminal psychologist Inger Johanne Vik – think open plan living with a blue-toned colour palette against brick, and with the occasional warm gingery accent. Inspired by that blue palette, I headed to Entrance Makleri – always a good place to find a stylish interior – in search of some mellow hues.

GREEN MOOD

10th November 2016

I must admit, it feels strange to be blogging about interiors this week when they’re so much going on elsewhere in the world. It’s been tricky getting my head into blog mode with so much to read, watch, and digest. So I thought I’d share something short and simple – and Scandi!

I spotted this apartment on Gravity Home on Tumblr and headed to Elle Decoration to check it out. Why? Because of the green – this hue just feels so rich and moody. After my previous post on Farrow & Ball’s AW16 wallpaper collection where I mentioned being in a dark blue phase, it seems that the company’s Arcade wallpaper has got me thinking about green.

ÖSTERMALM

9th August 2016

I feel that I should start a hashtag series for all the Scandinavian houses and apartments that I keep drooling over – #ScandiHouseLust perhaps? Because every time I look on Fantastic Frank or Lagerlings or Entrance Mäkleri there’s another gorgeous property beckoning – in fact, scrub that: there are several gorgeous properties beckoning.

Today’s irresistible number is an apartment that I bookmarked several weeks ago while scrolling through Lagerlings – it now appears to have sold as the listing has gone, but I couldn’t resist sharing these photos.
